How do I unlock a locked user?
Give users access to TimeTac again after too many failed login attempts
This article is for: Admin, Account owner
This feature is available in: Web app, Desktop app
TimeTac locks a user after too many failed login attempts. As a Admin or Account owner, you can unlock the user in the web app or in the desktop app under Company > Users. The user can then log in to TimeTac again.
Why is a user locked?
TimeTac locks a user when someone enters incorrect login details too many times in a row. This can happen, for example, if a user mistypes their password several times. The login screen then shows this message: "You have made too many unsuccessful login attempts. Please contact your TimeTac administrator."
Admins and Account owners define how many failed attempts lead to a lock in the Login access section. Avoid a very low number, as a single typo can then lock users out. Five to ten attempts are common. Learn more: How do I set up login and password rules?
Info: The lock does not expire automatically. The user stays locked until a Manager, Admin or Account owner unlocks them.
Unlock a locked user
Locked users are marked with a lock icon next to their name in the user list. You unlock a user in their settings with a single click, and the change takes effect immediately.
Follow these steps
- Open Company > Users.
- Find the user with the lock icon next to their name.
- Click the user to open their settings.
- A red warning callout in the top-right corner shows that the user is locked because of too many failed login attempts. Click Unlock.
- A notification at the bottom of the screen shows that the user can log in again.
Tip: Let the user know that you have unlocked them, so they know they can log in again.
