What is Quicktrack?
Quicktrack is a compact view for tracking your time live. Select an activity and click the start button to begin tracking. In the same view, you can switch to another activity or stop tracking.
Quicktrack looks slightly different on each platform:
- Web app: a dialog on top of the current page
- Desktop app: its own small window, separate from the main app window
- Mobile app: a full screen that slides up over the app
Open Quicktrack in the web app
In the web app, Quicktrack opens as a dialog on top of the page you're working on. Pick the option that best suits your workflow:
- Press your keyboard shortcut while the TimeTac tab is the active window
- Click the timer
- Click Activities in the timer when no time is being tracked
- Click the running time entry in the Calendar day view
Info: The keyboard shortcut only works once you've saved it in your profile settings. For detailed instructions, see: Set up a keyboard shortcut for Quicktrack.
Open Quicktrack in the desktop app
In the desktop app, Quicktrack opens in its own small window. You can keep it next to other apps while you work. Open it in one of these ways:
- Press your keyboard shortcut, even when another app is active
- Click the timer
- Click Activities in the timer
Info: The keyboard shortcut only works while you're logged in to the desktop app. Press the shortcut again to close Quicktrack.
Open Quicktrack in the mobile app
In the mobile app, Quicktrack opens as a full screen that slides up over the app. To open it while time tracking is running, tap the timer.
Info: Keyboard shortcuts for Quicktrack aren't available in the mobile app.
Set up a keyboard shortcut for Quicktrack
With a keyboard shortcut, you open Quicktrack with a single key combination. You only need to set it up once, either in the web app or in the desktop app.
Follow these steps
- Open your profile settings.
- Open the Quicktrack tab.
- Select the Open Quicktrack via keyboard shortcut checkbox.
- Click Edit shortcut.
- Press the key combination you want, for example Ctrl + B (Windows) or ⌘ + B (macOS).
- Click Save.
Your keyboard shortcut now appears in the Quicktrack tab and in Quicktrack itself.
Where your keyboard shortcut works
Where the shortcut works depends on whether the desktop app is running on your computer:
- Desktop app installed and running: The shortcut opens Quicktrack wherever you are on your computer, even if you're working in another app.
- Desktop app not installed or not running: The shortcut only works while TimeTac is the active browser tab, for example on the Calendar or Budget page.
Tip: If you open Quicktrack with the shortcut often, install the desktop app and keep it running in the background. You can then track time from anywhere on your computer.
Change or turn off the keyboard shortcut
Go to the Quicktrack tab in your profile settings to adjust your shortcut:
- Change the shortcut: Click Edit shortcut, press the new key combination and click Save.
- Turn off the shortcut: Deselect the Open Quicktrack via keyboard shortcut checkbox.
You now know how to track time with Quicktrack in TimeTac.
